Honig’s teaching engages primarily with matters of vocal technique and especially with the complete and efficient engagement of the whole instrument. Initially, she works towards unlocking the body’s natural breathing reflexes and extending those reflexes into the realm of vocal tone and musical phrasing. To that basis of ‘support’ Honig adds the other two major technical principles: the clear and undistorted pronunciation of text and the release – the constant and spontaneous liberation – of all elements of the vocal apparatus.
It is highly recommended to read about her ideas in the book ‘Der freie Ton: Ein Gespräch mit Margreet Honig über Atem und Stimme’ (in German), written by Gordana Crnkovic.
